In 1969 Huffy added many new standards across the board. The Flaming Stack guards & short rear
fenders were standard on most models. Tall 48" sissy bars with colored pads were standard, along
with red line tires. New for 1969 was the New Twinn Stick shifter with drag brake for the Slingshot. The
Slingshot based on the Rail frame but with 16 x 20" wheel sizes and simulated spring fork. The new
Slingshot was offered in Rally Bronze and Lemon Lime fade under the Huffy badge. Other model bikes
were planned to have fade paint jobs but were only released in single candy colors instead.
In 1970 Huffy went for more flash by adding several new Paint Fade models, and striped
Persons seats. The Judge was a 5 speed with single stick shifter and then there was the
Twin Stick in lemon and bronze fade with twin stick and Drag Brake. Huffy added a new
Slingshot 3 in all yellow with painted fenders, and a 24 x 20 Super Stocker.
In 1971 Huffy Added a few new cool bikes to their line up. The Twinn Stick now had a 5
speed Mag wheel on the rear. The 48" tall sissy bars were no more after the (BMA)
Bicycle Manufacture Association standards came in mid year. They added reflectors to
the pedals, narrowed the handle bars, and other things to try to make the bikes
comply with Gov and Safety standards.
1968 was the beginning of many cool new bikes & Accessories for Huffy. The Rail
received the new 48" Persons sissy bars, and a new Mag sprocket. Huffy Introduced
their new Steering Wheel Bike called "The Wheel" Mid 1968 Huffy Introduced the
Flaming Stack guard on their Wheel bike as a new chrome side pipe exhaust!

The new Flaming Stack chain guard was introduced mid 1968 on Huffy Rails, and was
standard for later years. The new guard was also offered as a universal version sold
over the counter through many Dept Stores and Huffy dealers. The guard came with a
cool set of water slide decals and installation instructions!
Late 1968 Huffy added new sissy bar pads to
their 48" Person's sissy bars.  There were 2
different 48" Persons sissy bars that year. The

In 1972 the line up was cut down to just a few bikes. The new standards had removed most of the
personality from the bikes until consumers no longer wanted them. Huffy did add a new Purple color
called Hot Grape to their Rail in 72 and had their yellow Slingshot 3 carry over. Huffy continued with a
stash of shorty bikes that are a shadow of their former selves. They did release a pair of Red, White
and Blue models in true USA style before the road ran out! A new style of bike was brewing in Cali
called BMX which would eventually pull the plug on the Muscle bikes no matter the brand!

The new Racier Rails came with a new

A new Nile green 3 speed Rail was added
to the new line up, and the blue coaster
brake model was morphed into the new
Wheel Bike that year leaving the
Coppertone to pick up the coaster brake
model.
In 1969 Huffy offered 3 Wheel Bikes. The carry over from 1968 was their Blue wheel
bike with Drag Brake. The second was their new Coaster Brake 3 speed model in
red. Lastly they offered a stripped down model in Rally Bronze with black steering
wheel and painted guard.
(Shown above) The Wheel was a very eye catching model
and are very desirable with collectors today!
The new 16 x 20" Huffy Slingshot came in Rally
Bronze Orange or Lemon/Lime Paint. These new
models were the top of the line for the Drag Race
themed bicycles. The Bronze orange came with a
Troxel seat and sissy bar with no pad, and the
lemon-lime came with Persons seat and sissy bars
with persons pads. Both bikes wear dual redline
Cheater Slicks and matching redline XL bow pedals
with black wall Million front tires.

In April 1970 Huffy broke out their new Mag Wheel version of the Twinn stick at a bicycle trade show. The new
model was a late start and only a couple are known to exist today. They also continued many of their 1970
model into 1971 but after mid year they now come with short sissy bars, fork reflectors, and narrow handle
bars. Still desirable models and if your lucky enough to find a early 1971 you might still see some of the former
1970 glory.
